An absolutely staggering, almost overwhelming place on arrival. Just as we walked in they were starting the Sir William Prescott engine. It was astounding to hear and see. I was quite moved. This machine is three stories tall. Gargantuan. The sight, noise (gentle, but so distinctly mechanical) smell (of lubricating oil) scale, grandeur and beauty knocked me for six.The staff were all very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. Any questions I had were more than fully answered.A minor complaint: not enough seats at which to sit and enjoy my cuppa. However, it was v busy on the day we went.More seriously: Unfortunately, I simply couldn't hear our guide at all when they ran the engine, which was a real shame. Even when it was not running, it was difficult to hear him due to the high level of background noise, amplified as it was in this cavernous space. I wear hearing aids, but I wasn't the only one so affected in my tour. Can this be addressed in some way?Without this problem, the museum would definitely have got a rating of 5 stars.I cannot believe that someone could come away unimpressed by this place. Even complete mechanical numpties. If you can, go on a day when they run the engine.

If you're into steam, you'll absolutely love going. If you're not, they've got good cake and cups of tea and I'm sure you'll still learn something.Volunteers are exceptionally knowledgeable and really keen to engage.Check the website before going as they don't open many weekends of the year. You won't need more than an hour or two unless you also go on the steam train nearby.

Very interesting building and huge steam pumps that pumped tap water in parts of London between 1930s to 1980. All run by volunteers. Hour long tour included and a small cafe.

Was a fabulous experience. Why hadn’t we discovered this before? Two triple expansion steam engines six stories high, and one if them even in steam! Do go on a steaming weekend, and on arrival make sure you book on a free guided tour otherwise you won’t be able to go to the top of the engines. The self guided tour is also good and you an do this while waiting for your guided tour slot.

What an amazing place ,I remember seeing this place as a child lit up at night and it looked amazing. Experiencing it is another thing. Well done to the team getting it back up and running and looking stunning. The building with its tiled walls and wooden roof to the green paint used wow wow... we used to be proud of what we made in the past. This was a great experiance although I was slightly over whelmed ,im on the list to return..

A great place to spend the day. If you are looking for the engines from the Titanic films SOS Titanic as well as Saving the Titanic this is it. They are gorgeous pieces of machinery.

Awesome monster steam driven water pump, run and maintained by a group of volunteers, do go, your tenner will help to keep this unique bit of 1920's engineering alive and well.Guided tour is included in the ticket price, allow 45 mins plus. Well impressed by the work done to rescue this place from the wreckers ball. Well done everyone.
