Alston Youth Hostel

Reasonably priced, rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Facilities are excellent. We were met by one of the owners Neil who is a top bloke. Really helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Location- a minute walk to shops/pubs.

Arrived bang on 5pm. The receptionist knew exactly what I wanted, a quick sign in, shower and out for a meal in the local pub. The shared room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The hostel was easy to find and close to amenities. The bike storage was very secure and room for plenty of bikes. The self service kitchen was well equipped too with free coffee and tea. After my evening meal at the local pub I headed back to the hostel for an early night. I was talking to Neil who runs the hostel about issues with the disc brakes on my bike. Basically they weren’t stopping me on the very steep descent into Alston. He said he would get the local bike repairman to call in and fix them for me first thing in the morning. Neil came over to me at breakfast to tell me that there was a problem in that David the bike repairman had no van at the moment but Neil himself would take me across to Nenthead when the breakfast service was over. True to his word Neil took me to Dave Raeside in Nenthead who dropped the job he was doing to fix my brakes. One cable replaced and both brakes adjusted to peak performance and a running commentary on what he was doing as he went along all for a very acceptable price. Neil would take no reward for his services, time or petrol costs. The man is a true gentleman and I’m in his debt. I’d recommend this hostel to anyone.

I use this hostel every year as part of my c2c ride. The welcome is warm and they go out of their way to help. The bike shed is secure and unfortunately I have had to use the functional drying room on a few occasions. Toilets are clear and showers nice and hot. Can't recommend highly enough!!

Alston Youth Hostel was chosen as our team’s stop during 2 day Coast2Coast trip. Linda has been amazing and took full care of us. Plenty of shower rooms and nice breakfast, bike storage, with local pub and bike repair shop in close proximity to the hostel.

Love it to bits! Can't wait to get back to the English Shangri La of Alston. Linda and Neil work so hard to keep everything tiddly boo. FRESH AIR AND QUIET!

Stayed here for a night on my pennine way hike, it was brilliant. Lovely owner Linda who was very friendly and welcoming. Room and bathroom facilities were spotless. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and very reasonable. On the pennine way and a 2 min walk to lots of facilities in Alston. Highly recommend. Thank you I enjoyed my stay a lot.

Great stay at the Alston hostel. Going along the Pennine Way it has to be one of the most convenient locations as it's directly on the trail!A very warm welcome, and a quiet location. Great showers and good kitchen to prepare your own food. Good value breakfast as well.

One of the best YHA's I've stayed in for a while. Nice and clean. Good amenities such as working showers (not always a guarantee with hostels), laundry room and good kitchen/ dining area. Would recommend taking the breakfast option in the morning,

What an amazing place for a cyclist on tour. They have many facilities, bike storage, laundry and most importantly a heated room to dry off damp clothes. The facilities are very clean and taken care of. There are a number of COVID precautions to help protect you and keep you safe. Linda the host was lovely and most helpful. Will stay again for the next time I am touring or hiking.
