Aspect Mountaineering

Teaching staff who lead the Outdoor Learning Team enjoyed a fabulous day with Andy at Auchinstarry. With his guidance and patience we all managed to complete a climb and it was a great sense of achievement. With Andy's assistance one of the group managed all three climbs. Well done Frazer! The abseil was a good finish to the day. Andy's ability to encourage each of us was spot on! We are looking forward to Andy working with our S2 pupils at the TCA over the Winter. I've had the pleasure of hiking with Aspect Mountaineering on 4 different Munro Hikes in both amazing sunny conditions and we also found ourselves between two Munro's in extreme weather challenged conditions. I can honestly say without Andy's top notch guiding experience , my husband and I might still be lost! We would highly recommend the professionalism, friendly and outgoing personalities --and experience of the staff at Aspect Mountaineering. We can't wait to get back to Scotland to go on another trip with Aspect Mountaineering!

I had to write a few words in praise of Andy Thorley . I'm 62 , unfit and overweight, but for some strange reason I had the crazy idea , a few months ago , that I wanted to climb Scafell Pike . I searched online and liked Andy's site , so we arranged to meet at Wasdale Head on 6th July .Then my sons and I did our best to find some big hills in the Brighton area , up and down the South Downs , but that wasn't great preparation for our trip to The Lakes .We met Andy at the appointed time and we set off . I explained that I was worried whether I could make it or not , Andy was very reassuring and said we would go at my pace and take rests if I needed to.After not many minutes , I could tell it was going to be a struggle, but Andy stayed with me and was constantly giving reassurance and encouragement. I found it difficult but we reached the top in under 3 hours .The sense of achievement for a fat old bloke like me was amazing, and to achieve it with my sons made it very special and I really want to thank Andy for keeping me going .The way down was a challenge for me , in the last mile my legs seemed to stop working , but Andy was never more than a yard away , keeping me upright.Thankyou Andy for helping to make it a special day for me and my sons .

Had another fantastic day walking with Andy from Aspect Mountaineering. Scotland offers so much beautiful scenery and fascinating wildlife, but it can be rather daunting to venture away from the well beaten tracks by yourself. Andy is an expert guide who's patient, encouraging, knowledgeable, prepared for anything, adaptable and fun. I highly recommend Aspect Mountaineering and look forward to future adventures.

My daughter and I had a great evening of climbing at Neilston Quarry with Andy.We are total novices but Andy patiently explained and demonstrated the equipment and soon had us climbing safety and confidently. Totally exceed my expectations

Many thanks to Andy for our day climbing at Rosyth Quarry. Safety was always paramount and the equipment was all provided. We learned a lot and have booked to attend the CMD next year!

Had an amazing experience yesterday trying out Sport Climbing at Bennybeg. Andy was a great instructor, really approachable and fun. We went in feeling fairly daunted but by the end of the day felt completely comfortable climbing and belaying. It was great to get some experience using different equipment and some real practical advice on how to get into the sport. Can’t recommend it enough, we’ll definitely be back for more!

I have used an outdoor guide before and had a horrible experience. Aspect Mountaineering popped up on Facebook and I messaged Andy. From the get go he was very reassuring. So we gave it a go. Best day ever in the Hills. Andy went at a pace that suited us. Helped out at the tricky bits and just had a calmness about him that made the day fab. Will deffo be booking again.
