Southend Airport

Less than ten minutes (probably closer to five) from getting off the train, checking in and clearing security - a very convenient, pleasant experience, much like London City airport on a Saturday morning. As this review is actually for the station - it's fine. Lifts that work, clear signage, clean and spacious.

Awful airport. We had to go through Southend on our way from Vienna to Manchester. We had a 2 hour change over window which was reduced to just 30 minutes because of the queues. The airport was actually very quiet but due to its awful layout we had to queue for 30 minutes outside after getting off our flight due to limited space. We then had a large queue for passport control with no one considering transfer passengers under a time pressure. We were then met with a sign stating that transfer passengers MUST collect their bags and re-check in for Manchester and Dublin.. however our bag had been checked all the way?! This was very confusing and there was no one around to ask. Non of the check in desks were manned and even if they were only had the option of air Malta and easy jet, neither of which we were flying with. The 1 person available to ask about our bags didn’t have any idea or offer any help. We had to re-go through security despite being a transfer, the staff were equally unhelpful... overall awful experience, no guidance, incorrect signs and no concern for transferring passengers.

Small airport well connected to London while tracks are not being repaired, which unfortunately is all too common. You can still get here via Southend Central and take bus 7/8/9. Don't take taxi, they will rip you off. Very small selection of dining or shopping but you can get all you need here: food, sunscreen, beer and coffee. Plenty toilets. If it wasn't for the issues with rail tracks it would be 5 stars.

Although this airport doesn’t have many restaurants (I think just 1 or 2) it’s really easy to go through checkin and security because this airport is not widely used. Also when you arrive to Southend the passport control goes so fast you are ready to go home in no time. No queues, not many people. Love it.

One of the worst experiences ever. Worst airport and an even worse train station. We missed the last train due to a flight delay. This was 2am - three girls travelling with very heavy luggage, it was freezing cold and dark outside with no one nearby, and because the airport closes at 12am (who knew airports could close before midnight) the sensible idea was to wait in the train station while waiting for our taxi. The one station worker on duty approached us in a very rude manner and instructed us to purchase a ticket or be escorted off the premise. It made no sense for us to purchase another train ticket as the next train would arrive at 4:30am and we were already waiting for our taxi to arrive. We showed him our already brought tickets but he said we had to purchase new ones if we wanted to stay indoors. Other than him, there was no one else at the station so it was very shocking to hear him say that we couldn't wait indoors because of COVID rules. This was in winter with temperature in the negatives, we begged and pleaded but he remained smug on his power trip. Avoid at all cost!

Definitely one of my favourite airports: it’s very clean for a start, you will not be left waiting for a long period of time and security is very tight. All of the staff are very welcoming and helpful and despite SEN is a fairly small airport, there are enough of them to keep it maintained and under control. Although this doesn’t apply to everyone, the airport is very handy considering I live very close, which gives less of a rush getting there. However, if you do not happen to live near, there is a train station right next to the terminal (it’s literally a 1 minute walk). Overall it is definitely an astounding airport.

There is a 24 hours open McDonalds 4 minutes walk from airport (yes you only need to walk 4 minutes). It’s warm, has toilets, food, drink and lovely staffs all night long.Please people, stop complaining about midnight closing just walk a few minutes. and for God’s sake the airport is almost in the middle of 200K populated sea town which has 6 million visitors in summer time how come someone can say “middle of nowhere”? . I have just used it last week and it was quite, quick and convenient.

Very convenient railway station for the adjacent Southend Airport without any long walking required to the terminal. Trains run every 30 minutes from London Liverpool Street (journey time about 50 minutes), Stratford and Southend.

Another airport changing to drop customers off.When will this madness end.. well if it’s anything like Stansted airport it won’t.Southend charge £3 for 10 minutes , as did Stansted once, now they charge £5.In my honest opinion it’s another tax for the motorist and especially taxi companies
