I have had my Narrow boat for 10 years and never been satisfied with the recharging ability when cruising. One engineer decided the best thing was to remove and not replace the 110mh alternator and assured me that it would be fine. It wrecked a holiday and subsequent trips out. Ed Shiers advertised a bespoke upgrade Alternator and I found him through EBAY. Ed travelled from his base to Iver and replaced the missing alternator and demonstrated its benefits. Today I have had Ed work on my Beta 43, installing an Mastervolt external regulator and Victron Cyrix Relay. This was to replace a DC/DC charger on my lithium and solar system which was the weak point on my battery charging. Despite being a retired electrician I have no experience on this product and as the boat is a live aboard I couldn't risk having problems, let alone the fact that the regulator has to be programmed! I therefore decided to use Ed and can report that he has done a lovely neat job and it's been a long day for him. He knows the products he installs very well and this will enable me to charge my lithiums at a 2KW rate from the engine alone plus up to 1.2KW from the solar. This is going to save a fortune on marinas and diesel. Thanks ED, top products with top notch product knowledge and installed in a neat and logical way.

If there had been 10 stars Ed would have got them! Having been liveaboards for 19 years we bless the day we found him on March 22 2007. My husband does most of the routine mechanical work on the boat but all he knows about electrics is that it’s better to get a 12v shock than a 240v, so Ed is the man for us. There are many times that he has come to help us at the drop of a hat. I originally contacted Ed with respect to a problem with my Travel Power Alternator which was soon sorted with a new set of brushes and then I threw him the sort of problem that frequently makes engineering types shrink away - an intermittent fault! For more than 12 months I had been plagued with an intermittent starting fault but had been unable to find the cause despite help from Beta. I am however very pleased to say that Ed was not intimidated and took a good logical approach to the fault finding and after only couple of hours work has solved the problem. I consider him to be a truly “competent person” with respect to the service and maintenance of a boats mechanical and electrical systems and I have no hesitation in recommending him.
