Coal tips to country parks walk | National Forest | This 11-mile walk passes through former coal mines that have been transformed into woodlands, and are now a haven for wildlife. It can also be done as two shorter loops of six and seven miles, if you are looking for something a bit less challenging.

Lovely walk with plenty of things to discover. A little gem of a place. Would be great in the summer so will make it a regular walk from now on. Only negatives are the lack of facilities and other dog walkers. Dogs should not be off lead in a public place- especially dogs with bad recall, which is what we experienced today.

Lovely area spoilt only by the frequent vandalism of the dog bins, benches and gates, by the mindless local cretins of the area

I've watched these woodlands mature over the past ~15 years. A mixture of recent plantation, some over mining/quarry spoil heaps and older forest on natural slopes in the north part of the area. Plenty of tracks, paths and mown rides for walking. Thorny bushes, brambles, nettles and dense undergrowth make off-path orienteering less practical/enjoyable. There are no facilities apart from a sheltered car park.

Frosty cold day after a couple of days of -3 overnight temperatures left a lots of pathways muddy, frosty and icy but was still very enjoyable on a winters sunny day. Quiet peaceful walk, just what was needed....

A very pleasant place to go for a walk around. Parking is easy enough and there is a mixture of paths and grass trails
