Aikido Shoshinkan (Nottingham Dojo)
Aikido Shoshinkan is an incredible Aikido club / Dojo.Sensie Tad and Sensie Rowan are very knowledgeable, patient and very helpful - always easy to approach them and ask questions. At the same time, they push you to become better and it doesn’t matter what your starting point is. I started as a complete novice and I’m really enjoying the classes, learning lots and the whole class has a great vibe and everyone is very friendly.

Excellent Aikido School, I have loved every minute of my training at Aikido Shoshinkan. Sensei Tad and the other teachers are all very friendly and have made my time as a student thoroughly enjoyable. From beginners through to advanced and even the kids classes every lesson is well structured and fun. Whether you want to learn Aikido yourself or you want to send your children to learn I can definitely recommend Aikido Shoshinkan Nottingham, I just hope that I can one day be as good an Aikido instructor too.

I had first joined the Aikido classes here in November 2015 as a way to continue my Aikido training which I had begun in the club's sister brunch in Malaysia. Since joining the classes here, I can feel an improvement in my grasp of the basic techniques. Sensei Tad is very knowledgeable and friendly as is the atmosphere while training. Everyone is very encouraging as everyone strives to help one another. Also, this dojo is a great place to train. Very spacious.

Apart from my wife, the whole family is currently doing Aikido at this Dojo. We were very welcome from the day we enquired about the possibility of our eldest, at that time completing 5 years old, joining this martial art. The integration process was gradual, with constant follow-up and feedback and became a routine that has made wonders for my child's self-confidence. I have seen and witnessed the friendly environment created to accomodate the different skills and personalities, the familial atmosphere that surrounds the social events and the dynamics of the physicality that alongside the art's ethos offers my children a sense of mutual respect. My children understand now a lot better the responsibility of their martial knowledge that will empower them to become confident in repelling bullies. My children grew a sense of belonging to a group that shares that same feeling of mutual protection and respect. Recently my 5-year old child joined in, as I did myself too. Knowing that she is being gradually accomodated to the Aikido reality without extreme pressure, grants me satisfaction and tells me that, as her brother, she will also succeed in growing self-confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline and a respect for the integrity of others. Moreover, I am also learning at this Dojo and have experienced a patient integrative attitude as sometimes it took me longer to learn since I don't have that much free time to train. But everyone has been kind, understanding, participative and has added to my gradual knowledge. 5 stars!

When I relocated to nottinghamshire I wanted to find a dojo where my son could practise Aikido. As an ex practitioner I knew what i was looking for. After thorough search i found Shoshinkan Aikido led by Tadashi Narita sensei and was fascinated about the traditional way of the teaching. If you're looking to practise traditional Japanese Aikido this is the place for you.

I've had experience of this dojo both as an adult learner and as the parent of a nine-year-old who's now a keen 'aikidoka' - and all I can say is, it's great. Tad and his crew of younger teachers are enthusiastic and disciplined, and they excel at communicating these values to their students. My son had experimented with other martial arts before and had never been wildly enthused. But now he's rolling pretty much everywhere he goes and is excited to show me all the techniques he's learned in each class. It's been a real pleasure to watch him grow and develop into the activity, and I know that with Tad, Rowan, and Leah he'll continue to do so. Highly recommended.

What an amazing family. From day one here I was welcomed with open arms as part of the family, never having to earn my place unlike other clubs I had been to elsewhere. On the mat, there is a strong aikido spirit and etiquette, with the chance for everyone to train together regardless of current belt. The sensei here, are very good at been able to encourage you to leave your comfort zone and grow while making sure you can do so in a very safe way. It has so rapidly increased my fitness too while been there.

Fantastic dojo with inclusive leadership. I was instantly welcomed by all (with no previous experience of the martial art). Sensei Tad’s instruction is engaging, informative and world class - an incredible environment to develop in Yoshinkan Aikido.

Aikido Shoshinkan is absolutely fantastic! I have previously trained in other martial arts and I can honestly say that this is one of the most fascinating and insightful styles. Aikido Shoshinkan as a club is very friendly and welcoming and there is a real sense of community and integration between beginners, graded students and instructors alike. All the students are always ready and willing to help each other improve and to learn from one another and to test new ideas. Sensei Tad has a brilliant teaching style and is very knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and patient which is exactly what you need when starting out at a new club. The fact there are several training sessions a week is great, as this provides even more opportunities to learn and improve. There are also regular training seminars from various training instructors from around the world which are not only helpful but are also very inspiring! I think the five star rating says it all!!!
