Inchcolm Abbey
An amazing place to visit. Together with the boat trip around the Forth bridges it makes for a great activity for an afternoon. The island itself is very picturesque and there are a lot of places you can wander to. Just make sure you get some sunshine ;) In the seagulls nesting season (March - June as far as I remember) it gets a bit tricky to walk further away from the Abbey as the birds tend to attack people who get near their eggs.

An abbey ruin in a lovely island near Edinburgh. Just book a three hour cruise in the website of Maid of Forth and you can enjoy 1.5 hour at the island. The abbey has many parts, the oldest part is from 1100s, including the bell tower and the nave. And there also remains ruins of the 1400s church. The ruin is amazing and worth to explore. There are some steep and narrow stairs leading to the top of the monastery. Although it’s not easy to climb, the top floor has a wide view and overlooks the entire island. Also noted that from April to August is the gull nesting period, so the gulls may be aggressive. Actually I have tried heading up the hill, but the gulls seemed like they wanted to attack me, so I gave up XD.Anyway, it’s a good choice to visit the island and the abbey in a sunny day. I love the cruise and adventure in the monastery. Good place for kids.

It's such a unique experience at incholmThe abbey is in amazing condition considering all that it has endured, it's a lovely site and the boat ride there provided by the maiden of the forth is great too !One of the best spots that I have ever visited

Inchcolm Abbey
Great place to visit, takes about and hour or so on the ferry to reach the island and then dropped off there for approximately an hour and half until the boat comes back. Some only go on the ferry tour but a stop off at the island is worth doing. A haven for wild life and the history associated with the Abbey is fascinating.

We booked online to take the boat trip up the Forth to fabulously unique Inchcolm. We spent an hour and half exploring the island at our leisure, and honestly, it was money well spent. The abbey is a special place to visit. Some are in ruins but most preserved, and you really have a sense of the history contained within its walls. There is a small beach to take a moment to fully appreciate the wonderful experience. Cafe and toilets on the island, and if you get a chance to speak with the staff, please do so. They are passionate about the island and abbey, informative, and really friendly. We got to see puffins and seals as well as many nesting gulls. I highly recommend this truly brilliant excursion.

It doesn't take very long to get to the Abbey on the boat about 45 minutes or there about. When you get on the island you are able to walk about the Abbey but some parts can be a bit dodgy due to age and erosion. You can also walk about the island but watch for the seagulls during nesting season. Also there is a souvenir shop mini museum and toilets available on the island all in all its very nice place to go for a few hours.

Great boat trip from Queensferry to Inchcolm island with maid of the forth. Only £18 for the trip including Inchcolm Island.Abbey is beautiful and you can walk round the island with great views over the Forth. Make sure you take a cane to hold above your head to avoid divebombing gulls in the breeding season if chicks are about.

It's a fantastic day out. We have been to the island 4 times and one of them was to get married in the Abby. It is definitely worth a visit. You can also see some great wildlife on your way out or back.
