Despite offering pilot gig rowing, the successful, competitive and welcoming gig rowing community has been shutdown rather than celebrated and supported by the Comdodore, Secretary and club committee. More of an old boys club than a welcoming boat club where the leadership is manipulative and untrustworthy. If you are happy your membership goes towards bedding plants, decking and other unnecessary items rather than CPGA membership thus access for club members to enjoy rowing at regattas, competitions and the world championships, then fill your boots. The clubhouse facilities are generally filthy and rarely cleaned (other than by gig rowers) despite daily users . Nearest clubs offering and pro-active in competitive pilot gig rowing - Porlock, Weston-super-Mare, Burnham, Clevedon, Portishead, Exmouth.

Joined the rowing, was excellent to begin with, lots of friendly rowers welcoming with great advice. regrettably quit after four months. Lots of politics and falling out. Shame it could be a nice place to learn to row. If you do join make sure you’re available to do maintenance on the club when it suits the commodore otherwise you might receive a passive aggressive email unless you send your apologies then that’s ok. If you join for boating you’ll be ok you’re the golden member the problems are the rowers faults so make sure you have thick skin before signing up. I wouldn’t recommend in its current unreasonable state.

Unfortunately the only thing you can do is to join the club if you have a boat. You cannot hire or take sailling lessons.
