Transparent Glass Studio

We have just completed our second glass fusing session with Paul and, once again, it was fantastic. Due to the limited class size you receive, pretty much, one to one tuition, from a very talented and patient teacher. Paul explains everything, the tools and equipment available for use, the different types of glass, how to cut glass, very clearly in what is a relaxed and friendly environment. We did the beginners fused glass workshop at the Transparent Glass Studio at the Ruskin Centre, Stourbridge.Firstly what a lovely building, plenty going on with lots of little studios to explore and a cafe too, always a big plus point.We walked there but there is ample parking for those who need to drive.The workshop itself was roughly 2.5 hours and so we started with a few practice cuts which gave us some confidence being surprisingly easier than we thought it would be!We could then choose either from a template or make up our own designs by cutting pieces of glass to glue to a circular shaped clear background. You also got to learn how to smooth edges and add different effects with different tools.Once happy, you hand your project in, ready for the kiln and fusing process. You can then either collect or have your finished piece posted.Our tutor Paul was really patient and made the experience an absolute joy being individual to each person.Would highly recommend having a go!

I went for a taster session for glass fusion on Saturday and it was fantastic! Paul kept the numbers low at just three of us to ensure the optimum tuition level meaning all of us got his undivided attention. The course taught us how to cut glass and the different results that can be obtained using jewels, spaghetti and frit (all glass of course)! We then proceeded to make our own lightcatchers which were then left with Paul to fire in the kiln. I received my finished article today and couldn't be happier. It's turned out brilliantly and all due to the excellent tuition from Paul. His relaxed, nurturing and enthusiastic approach makes the whole process fun to complete and I will certainly be back for the improvers session! Such good value for money too - couldn't be bettered :)
