Belmont House Unst Ltd

The Belmont House offers a unique atmosphere and guarantees a one-of-a-kind experience, peace, and relaxation. In the beautifully renovated Georgian-style house, guests are warmly hosted by Martin. Through the communal dining table, you get to know other guests better than in other hotels.

A great place to stay. Belmont House on Unst was a real highlight of our trip to the Shetland. Martin made us feel really welcome and looked after us very well. The house is spectacular and a real gem - a place of interest on the island in itself. In the evening we relaxed in the drawing room in front of a very cosy fire. Breakfast was great and Martin made sure to accommodate our vegetarian diet. He also gave some really good advice about where to visit which was great as we hadn't seen in the guide books that we had. Highly recommended overall, don't miss it.

Martin allowed us to check in early and served us tea after the long ferry ride from Aberdeen. He has done a wonderful job refurbishing the interior of this 18th century estate. Our accommodations were quite comfortable and the comforters kept us warm on cold nights. We enjoyed our time in the drawing room in front of a peat fire, discussing the Shetland islands with Martin while sipping Scotch. Martin is quite knowledgeable about the history of Unst, This is a GREAT destination.

Martin (and Rufus) were the most welcoming and friendly hosts you can ask for. We stayed for three nights while we explored around Unst. We got excellent tips for sights and customs around the island, and even got a wonderful nighttime surprise trip! Martin made us tasty packed lunches, which made hiking even better.The bed was very comfortable, with excellent linnens. The house itself is magnificent and kind of makes you feel you are in a book. Sitting at the writing desk looking out is really something to experience.Really recommend staying with Martin at Belmont House when traveling to Unst!

Belmont House is a very special building with a wonderful story and heritage. The triple aspect drawing room is an elegant and beautiful room and a tranquil spot to sit with a cup of tea. It's a lovely place to stay on Unst and Martin is a thoughtful, kind and attentive host. He was very accommodating and helpful to our needs and cooked us some delicious meals during our stay. I would really recommend you stay in this unique property when visiting Unst.

We stayed at Belmont House with Martin for a week in July (2 adults, 2 children), and the experience was fantastic. Martin is a great host - welcoming, friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. Martin is very knowledgeable about Shetland, and Unst in particular, and gave valuable advice on where to go, as well as general information about ferries and journey times etc.Belmont House is an amazing place to stay - clean, and beautifully detailed. We were free to use the kitchen and dining room whenever we needed to. The drawing room was a great place to relax in front of the wood burner after a long day of walking and sightseeing. Our son particularly enjoyed sketching in the writing room, with its impressive windows. We were free to explore the grounds, and the beach which is a short walk from the bottom of the garden.There is plenty to see on Unst, especially for wildlife enthusiasts. We spotted an otter next to the nearby ferry jetty, seals, puffins at close-quarters, and many other seabirds, as well as a curlew (standing in the garden!). The beaches are beautiful, with white sand and clear water.Overall a brilliant experience. All the 5-Star reviews Martin gets are completely justified; in future we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else on Unst. It's a fairly long journey to get there, but that's unavoidable if you want to really get away from it all. After a week we felt reset"

Just spent a couple of very happy days here. Lovely Georgian house with fires and period detail - ideal base for a quiet exploration of the island and so close to the ferry terminal. Martin was a wonderful host and the tour, with his local knowledge, was superb.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Belmont House. Martin was the perfect host, a great cook and showed us around Unst with great background knowledge and brought the various locations alive. The house was very impressive with a stunning drawing room with great views. In an ideal location very close to the ferry. Would recommend to anyone thinking of going to Shetland Islands.
