The man who greeted us and took us to our table was very pleasant and made us feel welcome. Food was nice but it’s quite pricey for Dover!! £2.95 for popadoms (you get 2 as a portion) they’re baked not fried. For that price it doesn’t include any pickles either, you have to buy separately. £3 for a small pot of chopped onion! Crazy!! £0.99 for mint yoghurt tiny position and lime pickle. Most of the starters £10 and main meals at least £12 each. Not traditional Indian with no mention of typical dishes like madras, vindaloo, jalfrezi, chicken tikka masala which isn’t a problem, but if that’s what you expect, you won’t find it here. The curries we had were tasty, but nothing to rave about. My mum had a king prawn curry and the prawns were large shrimps, definitely not king prawns!! They also overcharged us on our drinks and added £1 to every alcoholic drink which resulted in just under £10 being incorrectly added to the bill. Luckily we noticed and they did rectify it by deducting 5% off the bill. (Photo attached) £4.50 for half a pint of peroni????? No thanks!! Young lad who served us was nice enough but the food came out in drips and drabs, we had to wait for our side dishes and we’d already started eating our mains. Due to its location they really need to up their game as there are other “better” Indian restaurants closer to the town. Did we enjoy our meal? Yes we did. Would we return? Probably not, we prefer cinnamon island and Calcutta port, which are slightly cheaper and in our opinion, better than this restaurant. Hopefully they take into consideration their location and competition in the area, which personally I feel needs to reflect in their prices.

Wow the food was amazing. This is just what I wanted from an Indian restaurant, authentic Indian food with all the little details (down to the charred onions on top of the biryani). This isn’t your standard Indian takeaway sort of food. We will definitely be coming back and recommending to others :)

We were their for dinner on one of the days of our holiday, we wish we went there every day. This is One of the Best Places in the UK to have Most Authentic Indian Food" and not the Brit versions of Indian dishes. The menu is meticulously curated to include the major elements of culturally vast Indian cuisine. We were absolutely delighted with the delicious food and with the warmth of the staff. We ordered Paneer Tikka masala

Had the best curry in such a long time. Best curry in this area for sure! The mixed grillStarter was delicious, there was kebab, salmon and two types of tikka , chicken was flavoursome and so moist, salmon was sourced locally and absolutely amazing (didn’t like the bones but you are told about these in advance) lamb kebabs just perfect! We had 2 lamb dishes, both was spicy but pleasantly spiced, fresh ingredients, lamb was so lean, no fat. I certainly think each dish was cooked with love and pride Service impeccable, I will definitely be going again. Only one thing I’d like to point out, for me the saag aloo needs a little more seasoning .

Really really good Indian food! Our second time eating at Chef de Mumbai and I would confidently say it's one of the best true Indian cuisine restaurants. The starter was samosa chaat, while not exactly from the streets of Mumbai, it holds well for restaurant offering. Our toddler had cheese garlic naan, which is gooey soft and delightful. For mains the butter chicken is done right with pieces of chicken tikka in a tomato gravy that is well balanced. The Goan prawn curry is more Keralan than Goan, but is distinctively different in flavour, and delightful. Plain rice is the right neutral accompaniment to savour the differences of these dishes. We tried the chili cheese naan as well and were happily surprised that it's made with just the right amount of green birds eye chilies and cheese, so be prepared for the slight bite. What's great about this restaurant is that they focus on dishes that they are good to excellent at making and not trying to do everything with mediocrity. This allows them to produce closer true Indian flavours that are not toned down with sugary sweet fare so disappointingly typical of many other so called Indian restaurants.Staff are friendly, attentive and make an effort. Highly recommended to all.

Excellent authentic Mumbai cuisine. You can stay the night for free on their parking lot in a camper van if you - like us - are waiting for the ferry in the morning. The new owners came over to chat and the pastry chef let us try a new creation of hers (a cheesecake creme / Indian carrot dessert combination) for free.Awesome experience, too bad we're not locals, would def come back! 10/10

The Chef de Mumbai is a gem. The food is excellent - painstakingly prepared right in front of your eyes in the open kitchen. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble. They went the extra mile to prepare a dish for us, with accompanying sauces, containing no onions as one of us has an allergy. There was plenty of chicken in our dishes which was very tender. The menu is not run-of-the-mill Indian food and contains unusual but very tasty dishes. So if you are looking for expertly and delicately spiced Indian food with a difference look no further. There is a large car park suitable for camper vans. Eat at the restaurant and park overnight free of charge. The Chef de Mumbai has been open for about six months and should not be confused with Namaste or the Swingate Inn which no longer trade at this address on the A258 Deal Road out of Dover. There is a very friendly vibe at the Chef de Mumbai - all the staff and chefs were courteous, smiling and approachable. We had the pleasure to visit on the 17th October 2023 and look forward to the next time.
