South Western Railway Lost Property

Having picked up my lost rucksack containing my laptop and numerous other, not valuable, but irreplaceable items I am obviously pleased but I was actually really impressed with the service. The day I left my bag on a train, I emailed and received a prompt response. I went to Waterloo, where the train was heading and was advised to try the ticket office because that would be the first port of call for a lost item. No luck there but, reassuringly, they had been contacted by Lost Property about my lost item. I subsequently emailed LP on a fairly regular basis and always had a response. They explained that it could take a little while if it was retrieved at another station. After nearly a week I received an email telling me my bag was in lost property so I went to collect it. All contents were intact.

Having thought I had left my laptop on a train I filed a missingx report and then forwarded to the Lost Property email address with no expectation of getting a response. The team replied within a matter of hours the same day, extremely effective set up.

Went in yesterday to find a backpack I accidentally left on a SWR train the day before. I didn’t have high hopes after reading these reviews. I’d filed a report on MissingX, but hadn’t heard anything after 24 hours, so I went in. I provided a thorough description of my bag, and the attendant found it in a few minutes for me! I was in and out in under 10 minutes. It was such a breeze. Can’t slight the service at all—I’m so so grateful to have my bag back!! Many thanks to all of the employees who pointed me in the right direction and who brought my bag to lost property.Edit: I have to edit this review to say I left ANOTHER backpack on a train, a full year later, and after several days and my hope slowly deflating (lost on Friday, checked back Monday through Wednesday in person), they found it and returned it to me yet again! I have the incredible staff to thank for their kindness and communication. The same guy helped me three days in a row, and he was so unbelievably kind. He even remembered my description of the bag. Thank you guys for saving my a** yet again!!

So thankful for the help and assistance given by the Southwestern railway lost property office staff. They found my laptop and had tried to contact me, to no avail. By chance I was in London and physically went into the office. So pleased I did, as the laptop was there. No alert on the MissingX website though, so wonder if that ever actually works? Best to visit the office at Waterloo station.

Extremely unfriendly staff. From the second I walked in the man with the very short hair/bald head was just horrid. He was demanding and defensive and downright rude. All I asked was for him to look for my purse - I gave him the letter I was sent and everything. He even scolded me for ‘not bothering’ to come and get it sooner. Oh and by the way, the letter says they keep your items for 3 months but he told me they destroy things sooner than that so they’re not reliable. Go there at your own risk lol.

Brilliant! I lost a violin case on the train 2 months ago, going home for the summer holidays and on the same day at night, after reporting the lost property on the website, I got an email stating that it was found. 2 months later, and I am going back to school. Went to the office in a rush trying to not miss my train back, showed them my email containing the ref no. , in less than a minute, they came out with my case. Excellent service!

The guy who works at lost property literally could not seem to believe I'd come to collect my phone which was specifically reported to be arriving there. Terrible attitude. What do you mean customer service on the UK railway system (a national disgrace) or for that matter basic human decency from someone behind the glass (they're friendly at my local station but a tiny minority). I don't even expect any level of politeness but that was just another level.

Brilliant service from incredibly honest people. I lost my wallet on a train and reported it and got it back 1.5 weeks later still with the £180 cash that was in it I can't thank all involved enough. You made a big difference in my life

I lost my wallet in a SWR train and was able to get it back the next day. I'm so happy with the service and never thought that I can get my wallet back in London. Great service, friendly staff and super quick and efficient. Thank you to the amazing team of South Western Railway!

Waterloo Lost Property Office & Bar, London: The secret bar so secretive that we became the lost properties of the evening! Located at the Tap Brew dog bar at the sprawling Waterloo station. There is a secret black telephone that you must dial in for that Kingsman experience. The staff comes get you. You’re enveloped in a plushy lounge speakeasy experience. It’s quite an experience to behold. The cocktails are world class. It’s either a hit or miss for some. It’s that complex and layered with the flavours. It’s true innovation and so well presented. We had such a great Gatsby night out here. #eatstylishtravelstylish
