The Great Eastern Pub & Kitchen

Stayed here last night. Nice hotel with lovely bar area for a quiet drink. Room itself was fine. Had a TV and big radiator to keep me warm. But I've only give it 2 stars because the shower was freezing and the water would not get hot at all so I had a freezing cold shower in the middle of winter. And they did not serve proper breakfast I got some continental breakfast consisting of orange juice and fruit. Not really ideal when I'm working hundreds of miles away from home. If I had proper breakfast and a hot shower it would definitely have been 5 stars for me. Sorry.

Lovely hotel, great hostess Candy, very friendly and helpful staff. Had a brilliant weekend listening to brilliant music. Good bar, met lots of friendly locals. Excellent value for money if you want something at reasonable prices and good atmosphere. Recommended 10/10.Annie and Mick

Very poor quality hotel.The windows wouldn't close in my room and rain had soaked the window sill and carpet. The TV signal was close to non existent and no breakfast was served. The only food available on an evening was all you can eat Chinese at £15 per head and an overpriced bar for drinks.

A great place to eat and spend a relaxing evening. We were five people, 3 adults and 2 children, the food was very nice and the staff very friendly. We paid about £63 for 2 adults all you can eat buffet, 1 child (my one year old daughter didn't pay) and 4 drinks. Defenetly a nice place.

The Hotel seemed clean and tidy with a recent refurbishment and the Thai restaurant was very nice BUT. We returned to our room at 11.15pm after being at a friends birthday the hotel had a Mow Town evening on which was very loud and penetrating through the room' we thought it might finish by 11.45pm but continued with a loud Karaoke and noise from the people in the bar. This continued till 01.45am when the music died down a bit but then increased again' by this time we couldn't stand any more and decided enough was enough and left the hotel to drive back to London. The word will get around locally' it does seem a shame that after spending money on a refurbishment that staff or management could let this happen and possibly destroy the hotel.

We went here for the Orient Express Buffet. The food is pretty standard British-style Chinese food: sweet and sour chicken balls, fried rice, BBQ pork, etc. There are also tempura prawns and sushi, as well as chips. I was pleasantly surprised by the curry sauce, as it had a bit of heat. The only dish I didn't particularly care for was the monk's vegetables, as they were somewhat overcooked. The drink menu is also larger than I expected, with lots of choices for spirits, beer and wine. Service was very friendly and prompt. Will be back.

The food was really good for a buffet. It tasted fresh and was not sitting under the heat lamps for extended periods of time. The dining room was very large and capable of accommodating large parties.The drink cocktails were great and affordably priced. The staff was great and checked on us frequently.They have a toy car in the back room that my son would not leave alone. So the kids were entertained so the adults could enjoy dinner. Definitely worth a go.

When I found myself locked in for a considerable period of time due to a faulty front door lock I asked to use the fire exit and the member of staff lied by telling me it was locked. She then allowed me to use the same but this was being used as a laundry shute. Nevertheless this caused me no difficulty as I treated my evacuation as one would exit a crash landing of an aeroplane. The bar was closed when I required a drink as was the restaurant. When I did gain access to the bar the only other patrons were foul mouthed locals therefore one can only describe the atmosphere as blue and not at all to.my liking at all. Brandon itself is okay and there are quite a few other hotels with a more congenial atmosphere. I can only say that I enjoyed my lunch at the local hostelry across the road very much but it did not make up for my very disappointing stay at The Great Eastern.

We were told breakfast was included when we booked but then told by the owner that the kitchen was being renovated so only a continental breakfast but this consisted of a choc au pain, a breakfast bar, an apple and a child size carton of orange juice in a paper takeaway bag left outside your room door., (The second morning we didn't even get the apples!) however, they could still use the kitchen to cook their Chinese buffet every night! There were no robes or slippers as stated in the booking. The shower curtain didn't reach the tray so the floor got wet and slippery. It was by a railway line so it was very noisy with the traffic waiting for the barriers to rise, therefore you couldn't have the window open for long so the room got hot and stuffy. We feel it was far too expensive for the experience and would welcome being contacted by the owner.

Excellent range of food from the all you can eat buffet. Great value for the price you pay and all tasty. Nice little touch of the choices of fruit for dessert that allows you to refresh your pallet after the mains (if you choose the fruit instead of the delicious ice cream or have one followed by the other).Nice range of defferent beers on tap.
