Beyond the Edge

I’ve just completed the 2 day beginners navigation / hill skills course and it was absolutely fantastic.Our instructor was Hati who was very knowledgeable and very patient when some of us just wasn’t getting it. We managed to cover so much information and the course was perfectly designed so that the information given was at the right time so that our confidence grew throughout the weekend.I would definitely recommend Beyond the Edge.

Recently I went on a Beyond the edge intro into navigation which was a 2 day course. I stayed at The Sir William public house/b&b which was perfect as the course was run from that location so no rushing about worrying about parking etc.Our instructor Hati was amazing and put us all at ease straight away which was brilliant as it can be quite awkward the first day of a course when you don’t know anybody, we all soon got chatting and went out for a walk.The course was fabulous and Hati is a great teacher, calm and very knowledgable which came across very well and I was understanding the points.I felt very relaxed on the course and no question was a stupid question.Day 1 was brilliant and learnt pacing and steps and how to time a walk etc.Day 2 was amazing -we planned a route up to Kinder via crowded clough which was just beautiful.We discussed contours and looking for tick offs and catching points and gave me a better understanding of what I should be looking out for on my own planned walks.I felt like I have learnt so much which will allow me to go forward on my own walks and be a more informed Walker, these are skills I can take out with me when gravel riding too.Can’t wait to come back and start my lowland leader training.Thank you for an awesome 2 day course..

Just finished a brilliant 5 day winter hill skills course in Scotland with Beyond the Edge. James was an excellent instructor, explaining and demonstrating everything really clearly, then allowing plenty of time to practice with constructive feedback. I now feel confident to safely venture out into the mountain on my own or with friends. I would highly recommend this 5 day course to anyone wishing to walk in the UK mountains in winter conditions.

Great weekend course on basic rock climbing. Instructor patient with all learners abilities and routes were thoughtfully set up.Good deal of effort made to make sure we saw a variety of climbs and areas.Left with a clear understanding of the sport, my levels and next steps required.Good weekend with good people.

Absolutely brilliant weekend with Beyond the Edge for Intermediate Navigation / NNAS Silver - couldn't recommend more highly.Great information and communication beforehand; a warm welcome with friendly instructors and other participants; fantastic detail and expertise woven across both days of the course; and just lots and lots of time to practise skills, make mistakes and get kindly-delivered constructive feedback.Such a boost to my knowledge and confidence - I can't wait to get out and practise some more! I'll for sure be back to Beyond the Edge in the future.Special thanks to the wonderful Alex for such generous and expert support all weekend; not to mention his steady, patient and cheerful company in Sunday's driving winds and rain.

Just recently back from the Hill and Moorland Leader training course with BtE. The course was exceptional. Our instructors, Oli, Claire and Matt were highly knowledgeable, experienced and delivered the course in a friendly, professional manner. The support they provided throughout the course was second to none making it a fun and very informative experience. I can highly recommend this company if you are looking to gain the HML Award. Thanks very much, and I look forward to seeing you on the assessment week.

An excellent course delivered by Chris who clearly has tons of experience and knowledge. A great bunch of people on the course and we had some laughs along the way. Would highly recommend if you are thinking of doing a lowland leader course or any of the ones they offer as I am sure they are all high quality. Well done guys. The accommodation was clean and tidy and the food was good. The view from my room at the Sir William was not too shabby either.

I completed my CWI training and assessment with Beyond the Edge and I cannot recommend them enough. Both elements were excellent from start to finish and I have come away feeling confident in my skill set and enthused to pursue further qualifications. Thank you to Alex, and Ollie, for making the whole experience so good.

I wanted to learn how to do the basics of using a map and compass whilst running on the trails. This course was outstanding - not only did I learn the basics, but the course leader was also able to make me think about other aspects of being out on the hills, such as safety and recommending clothing and boots.We also had the chance to lead in pairs for a bit, which really put our class-room based knowledge to the test!I'd highly recommend this course, and I now just need to book in for the next level up.
