Wasn't expecting what we encountered.Arrived and was greeted by a number of volunteers .Very knowledgeable and happy to converse and share knowledge with the family.Lots of things to see and also a number of uniforms to try on.They had time to spend with the children and happy to answer any questions.Reasonably priced .On the top floor there is a cafe area where you can sit down and use the vending machine for a drink. They do prefer payment by card due to the loss of local banking but happy to take cash.Family ticket £30.We spent around 2 hours in the museum although you could probably spend the entire day and still not read everything.

Far exceeded my expectations, and I'm leaving the wife and kids at home next time. This place needs many hours of uninterrupted browsing, the collection is vast and intriguing.Just one tiny room, housing the Mason's spy craft collection, could have captivated me for the whole trip. The artifacts include real spy cameras, poison darts in a smoking pipe, items taken from Kim Philbys house....They have a real Cavaliers felt hat from the civil war, along with many full uniforms from throughout British military history. Every sword, gun and grenage... It's endless.Plan to spend a nice long time looking around. The parking is minimal, so be prepared to walk in if required. There are drink and snack machines inside, but no cafe. The staff are fantastic and very happy to answer questions.

The best military museum I have ever been to! Excellent and very knowledgeable staff tell you everything about the place. You have the opportunity to handle some deactivated firearms which is a very unique selling point. For those interested in the Cold War there is a fantastic exhibit on the life and exploits of a spy couple! I highly recommend giving this museum a go.

Excellent museum, small but full of amazing information and interesting items! The sound cloud QR codes in the SOE section are brilliant and give great talks on the subjects!

Amazing! Came here to see the displays, was shocked at the amount. Very interesting facts about local, national and international history. Great day out for all ages. Please come here if you can! David was great and helped us a lot, even letting us hold some guns like the MP5 and Moisin Nagant revolver.

What a wonderful place jam-packed with artifacts and replicas. The museum has displays covering a vast span of history, including local battles, world wars and spy paraphernalia from which Ian Fleming drew much of his inspiration. The staff at the museum are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Alex was on duty when we visited: he was so engaging and demonstrated a number of deactivated fire arms for us. I thoroughly recommend a visit and will definitely return.

Honest David's reviews. Well what can I say WOW WOW and WOW, now I have been to many museums but this one is totally amazing.Set of a small rounder about in heybridge/Maldon you would never believe there was so much military stuff hidden away here.Honestly I don't know where to start!!! Guns, thousands, uniforms from 1700's to modern day, bullets from musket balls to mussels. Books, papers, medals... I could go on and on and on.. seriously you need to get here one day... It's stunning and so clean.. did I mention WOW... Good because it is.Full 5 ***** stars from me. Only because I can't give 6

Very large collection of interesting items. The information on the items is abundant and factual. Weapons from roman times until Falkland and beyond. Displays of ammunition and fuses... Uniforms. And more interesting stuff like diaries, maps and so on.

Visited whilst on holiday in the local area. Friendly welcome, so much to see and even an area for the kids (and big kids!) to try on uniform from some of the services. Everything was presented well and clean. My son loves history and James Bond so particularly liked looking at the vast amount of guns on display! Great way to spend a couple of hours with free parking too
