called to speak about adopting a dog ! they whispered to someone in the background for a moment , then turnt around and said this isn’t the place for me and that i only wanted a puppy , presuming this is all because i have a soft voice so apparently they have a right to presume what we were looking for ! get better !

Spoke to Jan on the phone to talk through the potential of us adopting a retriever and expanding our very small family. She was dismissive from the beginning of the phone-call and I felt judged and at-fault for looking to adopt a dog. She advised that as my sister has young children, we couldn't be considered for adoption and didn't give me a chance to explain that we don't see them frequently.What should've been a happy and exciting time, became upsetting and difficult, making us question whether we would be taken seriously enough to adopt a rescue dog.

Lovely caring lady. Very helpful. We have been very lucky to have welcomed two beautiful retrievers into our home and can never thank Jan enough for giving us the opportunity to have shared our lives with them. She does a great job.

I adopted Jasper from Jan when he was 4years old. I have nothing but respect for Jan and the time and effort she puts into the rescue. Jasper lived to be 14years old, Jan was always on hand for support, I can't thank her enough for allowing us to have 10 wonderful years with our boy

Fantastic rescue rehoming dogs in need of loving homes. Care taken to ensure the right home found for each dog. We have been lucky enough to enjoy many wonderful years with our beloved goldens.

We adopted Gemma when she was five after losing out second Golden Retriever, it took two years of patience for her to completely trust us due to her previous experience. As willing as a potential owner might be to take on a 'lovely' rescue Golden Retriever it might not be all plain sailing and Jan has to be sure the right people can provide the forever home.

I can't understand some of these reviews, Jan was so lovely! We'd been turned away for no good reason by another rescue and we're very upset, but we reached out to Jan and she helped us to adopt our lovely boy Woody. Thank you Jan you're doing great work x

Sadly we had a very odd phone call with Jan in which she came across as dismissive and off-putting. She sounded as though she would rather not be having the phone call at all, and I made an excuse to hang up as it was clear she didn’t wish to be speaking with us. I’m not sure what put her off us as we didn’t have the chance to share much about us, but she had an unpleasant manner from the minute she picked the phone up. I’m quite sure Jan does a huge amount of fantastic work, judging by the good reviews of the rescue on here, but it seems we will not be able to support by homing a dog.

We have had 5 goldens from Jan over many years and have been truly blessed with countless happy times with them. She does wonderful work with the rescue and has rehomed hundreds of dogs.She will diligently ensure a dog is placed in the correct forever home. A dog is a lifelong commitment. And in the case of these lovely rescues they’ve been through enough as it is. The time and care taken by Jan to ensure the correct home is second to none. Excellent rescue doing excellent work.

Spoke to Jan earlier and didnt get a great welcome to be honest. I suspect she is very passionate about the Golden retriever breed and comes across as quite abrasive.Told me as I'd got Grandchildren under 14yo we wouldn't be suitable for a rescue dog.This I found a bit insulting as we are experienced Golden retriever owners having just lost our gorgeous girl, and, rather than purchase a puppy we thought it would be nice to explore the possibility of a rescue that we could offer a fabulous and loving home to.Never mind, our search will continue, it's just sad that Jan is set in her ways as shes no doubt missing some great homes for the rescue Goldies.Here is a pic of our girl Freya who we had from 10 weeks of age. The Grandchildren came along 3 years ago and she was wonderful with them under our watchful eyes-they too knew right from the word go she was not a plaything, and they had to respect her.The other thing that I may add is that, at the time I called, I was feeling quite vulnerable as had recently lost my Golden girl. This lady has no compassion and she should think before she speaks.1st time I have ever approached a rescue, and the last time as well. I will now spend up to £2,000 on a kennel club assured breeders puppy as I did with my last precious girl, and at least get treated with a little bit of courtesy.Oh by the way, to the person who Jan tried to put off a Golden retriever by saying they are disobedient, her words were very incorrect. Golden retrievers are stubborn, but quirky and need lovely understanding homes.Think it's time to hang up your boots Jan, if its left up to you no dogs would be rehomed.☹
