I have been taking lessons with Lawrence for a couple of months now. Lawrence is a talented guitar teacher with an abundance of knowledge over different genres of music. I had been playing for a couple of years before I decided to take lessons and was apprehensive about playing in front of others. Lawrence is a chilled out guy who endeavours to keep the lesson relaxed as well as interesting.

Lessons with Lawrence are a joy. I am an intermediate guitar player, but play a number of other instruments professionally, and as such have a fairly good understanding of music. Despite that, I find him to have a great and detailed understanding of what he is teaching which adds wealth to my own. He also just as importantly really gets how to learn, practice and truly internalise something, and is able to communicate that passionately and effectively. He is extremely well versed in instrument technique and music theory, and has a great general understanding of music which really shows when he paints the full picture of what he is teaching, and why.He is very patient, gives everything the time it needs, while keeping just enough pressure on to keep things moving forward. At the end of each lesson the sense of progress is great, and it feels like I’ve really got something useful and long-term out of it, which is impressive to achieve in just an hour, especially considering how long it can take to add anything new at this level.All in all, I cannot recommend him enough as a guitar tutor. If anyone can push you to be as good as you can be, it will be Lawrence O’Brien. Not to mention that his playing is stratospherically good, which acts as constant proof that what he pedals does actually work!
