Brighton County Court
1 in 4 family court cases not the biological father in BrightonThe deliberate or reckless making of a false statement in a document verified by a statement of truth would usually be so inherently serious that nothing short of an order for committal to prison would be sufficient. The Court made specific reference to contempt of court where a claimant sought to support a spurious or exaggerated claim, a lay witness seeking to provide evidence in support of such a claim, or an expert witness putting forward an opinion without an honest belief in its truth.Where it was an expert making the false statement, the fact that he or she was acting corruptly and made the relevant false statement for reward would make the case even more serious. It would be a serious contempt of court even if the expert witness acted from an indirect financial motive – the court gave examples such as a desire to obtain more work from a particular solicitor. It would still be a serious contempt if there was no financial motivation.Experts owe an overriding duty to the court that supersedes their duty to whoever is instructing them. Contempt by an expert undermines the administration of justice. It would therefore always be serious. It did not matter that the deliberate of reckless false statement was identified at an early stage and it did not matter that the deliberate or reckless false statement did not affect the outcome of the litigation. There is a great deal of trust placed on a witness. Putting forward a false statement, not caring about the truth, was usually almost as serious a contempt as telling a deliberate lie.

It is impossible to contact Brighton County Court. After ringing their local number, then being redirected to the 0300 number, I was held in a queue for 21 mins then the call was cut off! Rang again and the same thing happened after 30 mins!! I’ve given up and will make a complaint instead.

Absolutely awful that in society you are not allowed to ask a general question about process. Unless of course you can pay! Often people looking for general information ie who do i contact or where do i go for help cannot afford to pay. How sad!

Wrong telephone number. You call they say try this other number we dont take calls from this number anymore?? why the run around. Is it not easier to put the correct number up. Instead of setting up a number you pay to have live. Then you take more time to write a message to call another number on the answerphone. More work and costs for you. The run around for the customer. How very wasteful.I was calling to say there is a company making sales calls, claiming to be the bailiffs at the County Court. But when I question them and say i have no debts they say actually they are working on behalf of the courts selling advertisement space in a magazine!Just wanted to inform you of the fraudsters using your name and title.

Shame there is not a zero star ratingOn hold now for an hour, for the third time, a month after they have failed to respond to my e-mail requests for a hearing date. Paperwork delivery by hand on Feb 15th ( a week before its due date) all I want to do is find out if the letter-box outside was the right place to leave it and when we can expect a hearing. I bet our debtors are laughing their socks off! Or maybe just expecting me to die of old age before anything gets done. we are sorry to keep you waiting" it doesn't seem like it."

Terrible ....just terrible. Didn't write to me so missed hearing regarding my children. Called over 20 times and just left on hold. Sent 30 plus emails over a month and not one answered. System stinks from top to bottom.

Crime possibly pays? Using Covid as an excuse you will wait for hours for a call not to be answered. The use of the words ‘calls are important’ and call agents will be ‘with you shortly’ are enough to turn you to crime. If not the constant 3 bars of the same endless elevator music will have you chewing your own leg off. Totally unacceptable for a public service. Remind yourself that you dear taxpayer are paying for this. Calls to local courts will have dropped and this will make the workplace quieter whilst the unwashed masses can hang on to a central number forever. Sort this out.

I've called every day for over 6 weeks and not once has the phone been answered. Have also sent sepearate email requests in 4 times only to get an automated response once. I understand they are operating with reduced capacity due to the ongoing pandemic but at the very minimum as a government organisation, the phones should be attended and emails responded to. This is beyond a joke. How does this place operate on a day-to-day basis? Are there no administration staff?

I am in the process of trying to tidy up my late mother's estate. There is a charge from Brighton County Court registered against her property and I wanted to find out how to clear it. I phoned the number for the court and was redirected to a central call handling site. After listening to about 8 different messages explaining how Covid was restricting their ability to answer calls I was placed in queue with no way of knowing how long I would have to wait. After 40 minutes I gave up because I have a full time job. Why are these people allowed to continue with so called working from home when the government has ended the work from home directive? Further these people are clearly not actually working from home. If they were working (ie doing what they are paid to do) they would answer my call. When is the government going to fire all these layabouts? It is the same with nearly every government or local authority agency you contact. I resent giving these clowns 1 star but that is the minimum the site allows.
