Rick is an excellent (dude), musician, teacher and mentor, he is patient, good humored and has a flexible, easy going approach. Wow where do I start. I searched for a drum tutor close to home for myself. Rick popped up in my search. I am a retired teacher keen to become a Phil Collins. Rick immediately got me started on familiar tracks. I wanted inky lessons so I could play along with a number of rock songs. BUT Rick’s style of teaching started to drop in some key drum strokes to help improve further. I even had homework! Which I enjoyed.Rick has what seems a very relaxed style of teaching drawing you into the lesson quickly but the structure to both his delivery and my learning has been outstanding and I have learnt a number of fundamental techniques.I now have a number of songs I am beginning to play along with.I have progressed so much that lessons are now a combination of playing along to tracks and learning key drum techniques. I’ve now been learning the drums for two years with Rick and feel I have made progress in every lesson. Being on the wrong side of 50 and a complete beginner, I thought I should finally learn to play a musical instrument and so needed someone to show me the way to hit those skins in a musical sequence. Rick is that excellent teacher who shows considerable patience, breaking things down into easier steps and not letting you give in. He has the right balance in his lessons between the theory and letting you loose on a wide range of musical tracks and tastes. My only regret is that I didn’t start learning with him sooner! Definitely recommended.

My son has been taught by Rick for last 4 years and really enjoys his lessons. Rick is great with kids, very enthusiastic and makes lessons fun. He gets the right balance of learning techniques with just playing along to songs. He has a broad musical taste and has introduced my son to lots of great music. His lessons are always on time and never cancelled at the last minute. If he is running over, he always makes sure you get your full 30 mins. He has adapted his lessons well to online during lockdown using ms teams, facetime or whatsapp, providing info via email before the lesson.I would highly recommend Rick as a drum teacher.RegardsKev McKelvey

My step son is sixteen and has been coming to Rick for tuition for about seven months now and we couldn't be happier with the lessons. Rick is very knowledgeable about the subject and has the experiences and talent to really help a student to thrive musically. Rick is incredibly friendly and creates a calm, positive atmosphere for the session where my step son feels secure, at ease and can confidently be himself. The music is selected to compliment my step sons ability, yet also challenges him to push himself. The music varies each week in style and age so every session is fun, different and interesting. Rick has always gone above and beyond our expectations and each week sends extra practice home so that he has the option to develop outside of the lessons. The studio itself feels friendly and relaxed and the equipment is modern and easy to use. Rick has been fantastic throughout the pandemic and has been flexible in tailoring sessions to online so that we feel comfortable and don't miss out. My step son loves his lessons and has greatly improved in both technique and confidence which is all I can ask for. Thank you for consistently creating such a positive experience and always exceeding our expectations. If you're looking for a drum teacher I would highly recommend Rick! You won't regret it.

Occasionally Through lock down I have been in touch with Rick . He has sent me ideas on playing 16th note drum fills in different ways. Also swiss army triplets. He is very calm and shows you slowly how he plays them.. He is very confident and has a nice mannerism in which he teaches.. I have sent him some of the examples of my playing. Also a song I am learning. He has given me some good advice as I was rushing the song and not relaxing with it. He is a great Teacher. I would highly recommend him.

My son has been playing the drums for many years now. and very much enjoys it. Rick has been his only teacher and has always provided engaging lessons maintaining my sons interest. He is able to communicate effectively with my son showing an interest in his day to day life.My only criticism of Rick is his support for Manchester United, hopefully this will change one day.Many thanks Rick.

I have been learning the drums with Rick for about a year (with some breaks in between during to lockdown!). His facilities and resources are great and he makes learning really fun and accessible. I was a but nervous starting out as an adult learner but Rick put me at ease straight away and I look forward to my lessons every week! He takes time to understand the areas I want to develop in and plans the lessons around that. Since I've bought an electronic drumkit we have also been able to do remote lessons during lockdown which has helped with sight reading skills in particular.
