Northgate Lock

This is a must see if you haven't visited Chester

Helped down by CRT volunteer which was very much appreciated. God back up the next day OK by ourselves. Top lock paddles are really stiff.

Regular stop on my cycling route around Chester. Telfords pub restaurant near by, with indoor and outdoor seating.Canal towpath is good safe route around Chester helping to avoid busy main roads.

Beautiful peaceful place first thing in the morning - the sounds of the birds singing and the water gushing restore the soul

Die gesamte Innenstadt von Chester ist zu empfehlen, besonders einen Abendspatziergang entlang des Kanales sollte man hier machen, sehr romantisch.

Good for history

A flight of three wooden locks, built by Thomas Telford, located close to the canal basin and Water Tower Gardens. I reached them by descending a flight of steps from the city walls and spent an interesting half-hour watching narrow boats being raised 32 feet as they passed through them. You get the best views from one of the little bridges over the canal. Pleasant walks in both directions along a leafy, well signposted towpath. You get to pass other historic landmarks and see Chester from a totally different perspective. Worth spending some time here.

Located just beside the northern edge of the city walls, the canal walk and Northgate locks are found. There's about five locks here which canal boats use to traverse the canal ways. Hidden away, but worth the slight detour.Whilst visiting we ended up helping a couple close a set of locks that had crept open and started letting water out.
