Acorn Nursing Home
I visited Acorn Nursing Home on 31st January 2023 to entertain the residents. On arrival it was good to find lots of parking spaces available.Inside and out was impeccably clean and tidy. The room where I was performing was a very large area.Management and staff were very polite, inviting and all willing to get involved.During my 1 hour visit the residents wanted for nothing as staff were always available to help them.Lovely care home and staff 10/10

After a brief, unexpected stint in hospital, my Grandad was unable to return home and he was given a year to live by the consultant. Unfortunately, when looking at care homes in the area, most well-rated establishments had a waiting list. We weren’t particularly sold on the Acorn but, sad to say, we chose it as a temporary solution whilst we waited for one of the others.I visited around three or four times a week and, even though the staff worked hard, I noticed that there was very little care and compassion for the residents. He rapidly deteriorated and he must have easily lost a couple of stone in weight in just a few weeks but they never actually weighed him. My mum works in a care home and she was astounded at how many errors were made in a short amount of time. After three short weeks, he passed in the early hours of the morning. As we live not far, we got there around 30 minutes after we got the call and his bed was already stripped and they had taken off his PJs and dressed him in an outfit similar to hospital wear.Completely grief stricken, we got a call the morning after from the manager to say we needed to collect his belongings asap. I volunteered to go and I was in disbelief to see that his belongings had already been taken from his room and put in bin bags in the reception. There were some items of his furniture missing so I was taken back to the room to collect them. To my horror, another resident had already moved in! I awkwardly had to take the resident’s possessions out of my Grandad’s chest of drawers whilst trying to see if there was anything else left in the room, all whilst being hurried along by the manager before the resident returned to the room. It was a truly insensitive and heartless experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. As part of the NHS, a patient is entitled to up to 4 weeks in a care home which means that the room was paid for around another six days. There was simply no need to treat my Grandad and his belongings in this way less than 48 hours after he died. Every single time I drive past this care home, I’m still filled with anger and disappointment, hence why I’m leaving this review months later. This care home is equivalent to a human conveyor belt.I strongly warn anyone who is thinking of putting their loved ones in this establishment to think twice. My Grandad had a happy life but an incredibly sad and insensitive ending. Your loved ones deserve much better.

My father has been at the Acorn Nursing Home for over four years now. In all this time he has received excellent care. He is now bedridden as he is now on end of life, if it wasn’t for the staff at the Acorn for there love and care for my father he would have passed away a long time ago. If he is ill we get a call saying when the doctor or nurse is due to see him. The manager Diane and her team are now like part of the extended family, they check dad every two hours to turn him and to give him foods etc, I visit my father every day and the staff are just amazing with him.A few months ago we were sat with him and were asked to leave the room while they checked his pad, which is done ever few hours. Whilst we were waiting outside we heard the staff singing to him, and they managed to get a few words of song back from him, which brought a few moments of joy to us both.

I would just like to give my opinion on the care received by my brother who has been in the Acorn now for nearly 7 years - he has been looked after and cared for by all the staff in there at all times, I know he can be very trying and demanding at times yet he’s always been treated with kindness and compassion. To be honest if it wasn’t for that care 24/7 then I really don’t think he’d even still be here - Manageress Dianne/Sammi will always make time to answer any queries I have or deal with any problems that may arise at any time that I am there, all the staff I have dealings with are always very pleasant and helpful at all times too. My brother has always felt comfortable and looked after even though he can be a pain at times - I know I can always go in and discuss things with them at any time at all too, so my experience of Acorn can only be a good and positive one. On the whole me and brother are more than happy with all there too.
