Poor experience this time, sorry. We have used Allingham Stuart on several occasions, last time was so so because we had asked for authentification cert with picture to go on the back of the frame - instead it was placed on the back of the picture inside the frame. This occasion we brought in an early 20th century Japanese woodblock print with provenance information which was a birthday gift from my children. We specifically asked that the provenance was placed on the back of the frame to avoid disappointment of last job. We were told the work would take 2 weeks and they would ring us. We went back after 3 weeks to ask if it was ready but were advised it would be another week. Yesterday, 4 weeks after bringing in the picture to be framed, Allingham Stuart rang to say it was ready for collection. We were most disappointed to discover no provenance certificate on the back of the frame, assumed it must have been placed inside in error like last time but no, it was missing. Guy who took original order asked if we were sure we'd brought it in ... then said he would go and look through the bins as it looked like it had been thrown away. We waited while the bins were checked, no luck. He then suggested we might like to go on the internet and look for a similar authentification for our picture, which we found quite shocking ... what would we have searched 'framer throws away authentification for Japanese wood block'? The mind boggles. He offered to let us have the framed picture for half the original quoted cost, then decided we could take it away at no cost, which I suppose was the only option left available, as a gesture of goodwill but it has left us feeling unhappy at the poor service we have received from this company and we would not be comfortable entrusting any further work in their care.
