Monty’s sports bar.. more like Monty’s cemetery.. very dark and gloomy with lots of broken glass on the floor

Recently renovated to a modern standard, large open plan bar with pool ( side room with pool table as well) and darts towards the back. If you are into Sport this is a must. Regularly showing Sports events on the 3 televisions around the building. Warm, friendly staff who are always willing to help. Wide range of whisky, Gin and spirits. Draught beers, and soft drinks also available at reasonable prices. Outside area to back which is a suntrap on hot days. Disabled friendly access and facilities. Dogs and children welcome. Free WiFi available through the cloud although this can be slow at times.

Admittedly I went in on a Sunday but it was dead despite World Cup football being on. It is fairly nice inside but a bit gloomy. Bar staff pleasant. I'd give it another visit next time I am in town.

When visiting castle douglas over the weekend we stayed in the accomadation above montys bar, Which was absolutely fantastic, fresh and clean, using traditional method and antimicrobial ULV Sprayer to protect from covid infection daily and when necessary.There are three different rooms each set up to a High standard with key lock and smart tvs, a shared sitting room and kitchen with all appliances including washing machine, dish washer and usb plug sockets.On the ground floor is the bar, Which is one of the oldest in the small town but it has a modern and fresh decor and the owners couldn't be more lovely people it was a really pleasure to meet and get to know them and many of the other local in the friendly, lively atmosphere. I am already looking forward to our next visit.I couldn't fault any part of our stay from cost to how welcome we we're made to feel.The town itself had all you could need with in walking distance from montys bar from shops and cafes to swimming pool and a loch with some fantastic history of hangings and the dumping of Bodies.There is also beach views a few miles in one direction and hills sides to explore in the other.Should you be in the area i really would call in and have a drink or if you need a place to stay this is the one to go to.Many thanks Eric and Mary.
