Visited on a Saturday night for the first time, reading on their website that it was an outdoor restaurant I was a bit concerned about our comfort being in the middle of winter but was pleasantly surprised that it was perfectly nice and warm. No need for coats, blankets or hot water bottles! Menu is simple but interesting. The pizzetta was quite nice and well presented (£10 was a bit too much for the tiny portion though), pork rillette was bland, it lacked proper seasoning and the mozarella was good, but it was less than a quarter of a ball and £15 was too expensive in my opinion. The main courses of duck and sea bass were excellent, my only criticism is to see radicchio twice (mozarella and duck), I understand and value seasonality but this is just a lazy approach, I didn’t expect the repetition of ingredients. Dessert was a bit ordinaire but pleasant enough. I was a bit surprised to see the same wine I get in my local Chinese as a house wine, I think considering the quality of the food and surroundings, they could do better. Overall, it was a good experience and I will certainly return when the weather improves.

We had an absolutely magical 2 night, 2 day experience at Updown. It was the perfect English countryside setting for my small group of girlfriends to celebrate a dreamy birthday getaway. The staff were all incredibly charming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was elegant and delicious, the drink selection was spot on, the rooms were so immaculate and uber comfortable. Updown manages to combine a high-end style with a chilled vibe, effortlessly. Thank you Updown for providing the perfect weekend for us - we'll cherish the memories forever.

Updown Restaurant appears to be an old farm house, in the middle of no-where near Deal in Kent, which is part of its charm, however when it is very dark, the route to and from the carpark is poorly lit and not well sign posted. Don't wear your best shoes!I really expected good things from a menu which offered very little choice. There was a rump steak. A beef pie and a vegetarian option. We had the Ribollita soup for starter, which oddly featured what looked like small black turtle beans instead of the usual large white cannellini type beans? Tasty, none-the-less.For main, my Wife had the beef shin and Guinness pie. which I tried and it was very nice! The pastry was short and crumbly and the filling was succulent and tender.I ordered the rump steak and it arrived very rare, making it chewy and unpleasant. The ends I ate and were ok, but none of it had been seasoned either. Oddly, it was pre-sliced, so why the chef didn't notice that it wasn't cooked properly is a mystery? The waitress offered to cook it some more". The grilled tomatoes were nice

Visited today for the second time and sadly was not as impressed as on our first visit. For us some of the original charm had vanished. Outside tables have been moved from the beautiful arbour to inside which in our opinion now feels cramped and less intimate. The flavour of the food itself was delicious. The ravioli was exceptional however three of the party chose the roast pork for main which all came served on a platter for us to serve ourselves but with no serving spoons rather than being individually plated as you would expect in a 5 star restaurantNo salt and pepper on the table. The gravy and apple sauce was brought to us when we were half way through our meal and it wasn’t until we looked at the menu again we realised that the cauliflower cheese had been forgotten completely.2 small slices of pork per person which was mostly fat and very little actual meat so in our opinion very poor value. At a total cost of £75 per head including wine (starters but no dessert) these little details should not have been overlooked.Staff however were lovely and overall , as I said , the flavours were great.

Gorgeous! We stayed for one night in the garden room #3. The house and rooms are beautiful, they really make it feel like a home from home. Every detail is thought out, from the honesty bar, games and books and milk delivery’s outside your room in the morning. The grounds are lovely especially if you’re bringing a dog. And the restaurant is stunning. We felt like we were a flight away from home (more like a 15min drive)! Our host and waitress Meg was so helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break.

We had a family lunch at Uptown Farmhouse. This was a superb experience. The atmosphere is sophisticated, yet relaxed, the service was friendly and efficient and the food was absolutely marvellous. The pictures show the Seafood Fazzoletti and the Buffalo Mozzarella, Peppers and Olives starters, the main courses are Grouse (which came with separate vegetables and potatoes), and Roast Pork, and finally the Cheese and Biscuits. The wine list is excellent and we had some original cocktails as aperitifs. The Rosemary Bread they brought us was wonderful. I didn't photograph it because we had eaten it before I thought of doing so. Two other things to note are that they are very welcoming to dogs and children and the children's pasta with tomato sauce was very popular with my granddaughter, and parking is very easy in their farmyard. The meal was expensive, but worth it.

Updown is a magical little gem in the countryside. I come here often for lunch or dinners, and it’s always impeccable. I had gnocchi here 3 months ago, and haven’t stopped talking about it. I’m vegetarian and they always rustle something up amazing for me. It’s a relaxed atmosphere where you’re waited on, but not fussed over. Leaving you to enjoy and take it all in. It’s family run, and you can tell they put their heart and soul into the place. It’s more than just a restaurant with rooms, it’s a little oasis.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant serving exquisite food and wines. This place reminded me an atmosphere of the old house from Great Expectations movie in a very good way. My partner and I spent a few awesome hours there, completely lost in time and space, enjoying every detail of our meal and service. It’s quite a journey for us to get there but we will come again very soon.

Second time here. Service was the problem. Firstly seated in a corner, husband facing a door. Had to wait in a cold corner while they actually prepared this very miserable setting. We tried to be polite, but it took a long while for alternative seating. Finally scorched by the gas heating above our heads. My crémant failed to arrive, instead a glass of white wine. Was changed with no apology. That said, the food was delicious and the setting finally a wonderful view of the garden and the house. Also fascinating to watch the chef and team in action.Hope next time we don't have to ask for all this, feeling guilty.
