Balmaha Bunkhouse

Really great stay along the west highland way! I booked in last minute because of some pretty awful Scottish weather and couldn’t have been made more welcome. Comfy bed, hot showers and a lovely communal area. I would recommend to anyone in the area.

An absolutely incredible stay! We were lucky enough to catch these guys on their last night of the season and were so appreciative of their wonderfully warm hospitality. They’ve done incredible things with this awesome bunkhouse, felt more luxury than hostel vibes for sure! Balmaha itself was a great stop off for us on the West Highland Way. Being November, we opted for indoor accommodation rather than camping and couldn’t have been more chuffed with our choice to stay here. A real highlight of the trip. Would highly recommend and hope to stay here again soon!

We had a lovely stay here in July. I highly recommend this venue. We had a lovely welcome, a hand written note with all the details on. We were shown to our room and around the bunkhouse. We stayed as a family of 3 so stayed in the purple room downstairs. The first things I noticed was the fresh smell and how clean everything was. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. Tea, coffee, cereals, bread and butter were all plentiful. A perfect venue and extremely friendly hosts. We ate food in the pub in the village and that was very nice.We had a problem the next morning our car wouldn't start Ian was very helpful he came armed with jump leads to try and start the car. Unfortunately the battery had died. The AA came and replaced the battery but it was a long day. Ian came back to check how we were getting on twice . Thank you Ian and your family for a lovely stay in your bunk house we can't wait to come back again.

I would definitely recommend a stay at the Bunkhouse, my friends and I had an excellent time here. The bunkhouse is situated on the main road in Balmaha, along the West Highland Way, and has a wonderfully picturesque view of Balmaha harbour - with close access to wonderful beaches, jetties, and viewpoints scattered around.The rooms were immaculately clean, spacious, and extremely pleasant to stay in. The showers are maintained extremely well, with shampoo and soap provided.There is a well stocked and fully equipped kitchen providing coffee, cereal, bread and a comfortable space to chat and socialise with other guests. Ileana and Ian are warm hosts who have checked in and took interest in our stay. We’ve been greatly touched by their generosity and hospitality.

Absolutely lovely bunkhouse!The hosts were incredibly friendly and showed me around, the room and bathrooms were very clean and the bed very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked for breakfast/teas/coffees and beautifully decorated which gave it a real home feeling. And the surrounding area is stunning which made me wish I was staying more than just one night

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The hosts were welcoming, the bed was comfortable and the location is amazing. The hostel is very popular with hikers being on the West Highland Way, so if you are a hiker you'll find plenty of kindred spirits.A breakfast selection of cereals and toast is included which was welcome. There is a pub nearby which serves good food and has a great selection of whiskies.

Balmaha Bunkhouse deserves every 5 star review it has earned so far. Ian, Ileana and Elie are immediately on hand to welcome you and make you feel instantly at ease, going so far as to give you a handwritten note with all the info you need upon your arrival.The accommodation itself blew away all my expectations and is without a doubt the best value for money I've seen on the West Highland Way. The beds are comfy and warm, there are 2 showers, and breakfast is even included in the price. The accommodation was clean and comes fully equipped with toiletries.While the West Highland Way is a whopping 96 miles long, the family at Balmaha Bunkhouse are truly the ones going the extra mile here.

Stayed at Balmaha Bunkhouse as our first stop walking the west highland way and it was absolutely perfect at the end of a day of walking. Beds were warm and comfy and there was an excellent drying room in the porch which was perfect for drying our boots and jackets ready for a fresh start the next day.A lovely kitchen/social room was also a great plus giving our group a nice space to relax and hang out without having to all be in our beds which we really appreciated. Just across the road was the oak tree inn for dinner and a really well stocked shop. The hosts were communicative and friendly, showing us round and letting us know when we’d left something behind.Honestly can’t think of a thing that could be better everything was exactly what we needed and an ideal first stop along The Way!
