The two inclined lifts are not installed as of 18/02/2020. Passenger lifts capable of carry a bike and rider are available. For the fit, you can walk up and down the remaining wooden escalators, these are now fixed stairs, 100+ steps

This was my first use of the pedestrian tunnel. The escalators were both out of operation on the Howdon and Jarrow sides, so lifts were the only option for a cyclist. Any pedestrian who was quite fit and healthy could probably manage to use them. The cycling community just had a lift. Sensible CV-19 measures and handgel were on site. The actual tunnels appear well ventilated, brightly illuminated and not in any way claustrophobic. I think that for anyone who can manage the lift down, who may suffer this condition mildly, they will find it very rewarding, and the pedestrians are given a separate tube" to traverse

Awesome tunnel under the River Tyne. The refurbishment is impressive and checkout the longest wooden escalators in Europe. Beware it does close at night so dont get stuck on the wrong side.

It's nice and clean. Took me about 8 mins to walk through, just nice and steady. Lifts work quick and clean

Ok so it's a great free link for bikes and people on foot. The work reopening it has been amazing, it looks great. But unfortunately the special built lifts that replaced a escalator at both ends is still not working. Hopefully they finally get it working as the small lift can get busy at peck times.
