Just a big thank you to Joseph at Thompson & Oliver.I recently sold a gold necklace and pendant that was just sitting in a drawer and hoping to get some money to buy something I would actually wear.Joseph was very helpful and took the time to take it to the bullion dealers. It turned out to be 22carat gold.I am very grateful for him to take his time to investigate this for me.I don’t normally write reviews but I feel compelled to do so following my experience.I went to Whitleys Jewellers on Godalming High Street initially. The person who looked at my necklace didn’t even come out from the back to talk to me but the sales assistant relayed a message to me to say that they ‘didn’t want to take a risk’. I appreciate that there is no obligation for them to buy/look at anything but if they don’t have the expertise to test it, then they should just say so. I felt like I was treated as somebody who wanted to defraud them.I then took it to Merlins The Jewellers on Bridge Street, they did test it for me. Not in front of me but I had to leave the chain and pendant. I received a phone call a few days later to say that unfortunately ‘it wasn’t gold’. They couldn't tell me what it was but it was 'not gold'.I then bought a home testing kit from Amazon. I am not an expert and I wasn’t expecting it to be that pure but the test showed that it was at least 9 carat.That’s how I ended up at Thompson & Oliver.If you want friendly help and advice from people who take you seriously and have the means to test gold properly, please go to Thompson & Oliver on Church Street in Godalming.

Where do I start, Thompson and Oliver are the most fabulous family run jewellers offering a huge array of wonderful items from traditional to contemporary and beyond….my eyes are always drawn to the cabinets which contain an eclectic collection of ‘things’ , it is like an Aladdins cave and Blane, Sarah and their sons really know their stuff and can give you the back story. I love it!I am lucky that all my significant pieces of jewellery starting with my engagement ring have come from here BUT they have also had re-strung a much loved costume jewellery necklace for me and designed and made some earrings as well.Stepping into this gem of a shop is always such a friendly fun experience and you are never put under any pressure to purchase. I cannot recommend Thompson and Oliver highly enough. Thank you xxx

I brought an old brooch with huge sentimental value in for an awkward repair. They went above and beyond to make it look as good as new. From being distraught at the damage I came away totally relieved at what they’d managed to do. Thank you so much!

Sarah & Blane have recently designed & made the most beautiful silver necklace for me, with my grandchildrens' names on. It was a long process & nothing was too much trouble. Blane even made up a prototype using keyrings for me to see! They are a delightful couple & really work hard to get it right for their customers. They have repaired, redesigned & found me other pieces of jewellery over the years and always with such charm & patience. It is a treat to visit them!

An amazing family run jewelers. Blaine Sarah and Joe cannot be more helpful or knowledgeable in all things jewellery/antique /gem related . Not only do they sell beautiful pieces they do valuations for insurance (beautifully presented with each piece photographed) ..nothing is ever too much trouble they go above and beyond and more importantly honest and trustworthy. I never go anywhere else. We are so lucky to have them in Godalming !
