Roy Fletcher is very friendly & very patient and an excellent teacher. He adapts his teaching methods to the individual needs of each student. His wooden boat models really helped in understanding the theory behind steering, and different ways of mooring, moving off and reversing the boat which made the practical application so much easier to put into practise. 100% confident I can now cruise the cut and deal with any situation that may arise. Anyone who wants to cruise and take the helm of a narrowboat will not find a better place or teacher to learn.

The training instructor, Roy Fletcher was kind, calm, friendly & extremely patient with me during the 2-day helms person training course. I would highly recommend him - not only was it good fun and informative, he always made me feel at ease when I didn't know what the hell I was doing. His wooden boat model really helped me in understanding the theory behind moving the boat and then doing it in practice allowed the learning to fuse together.He was very encouraging when things went a little off course" and he knew when I was getting tired and not able to think straight

Having been to sea and had some merchant navy training, I am pleased to have taken the RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman's Certificate course with the charismatic Roy Fletcher.I would widely recommend Reedley Boating Ltd. as a training centre for excellent conveyance of core concepts and principles, guided by a hand bearing the hallmarks of experienced practical seamanship and maritime knowledge.

My wife and I recently completed our 2 day Helmsman Course. Roy has an amazing sense of humour (He needed it with us 2!), and a great deal of patience which really put us both at ease. He explains everything in human terms without over complicating it with professional terminology. He is able to adapt his training to individual needs. Nothing was too much trouble. He is great at recognizing when you are starting to fatigue and again put us at ease, especially with the supplied biscuits!! We really cannot recommend him enough. THANKYOU Roy!!!!!

We took the course prior to the launch of our new boat. Neither of us had previous experience of narrow-boating but felt confident after two days of help from Roy. He not only told us WHAT to do, but explained WHY and HOW things worked. We operated locks and navigated a tunnel, learned how to enter and leave moorings and berths. It was a relaxed, fun and informative experience. We had two dogs with us and Roy was more than happy to have them along too - providing a water bowl and treats. I cannot recommend this course and instructor highly enough. Thanks, Roy.

We completed the 2 day Inland Waterways Helmsman Certificate with Roy at Reedley marina. The course was 100% worth it and I would highly recommend Roy as the person to deliver this training. He is thorough, very knowledgeable and very encouraging. A big thank you for a great experience.

I recently attended the RYA inshore helms course. Our skipper Roy Fletcher was outstanding in terms of the way he settled us and quickly dispelled any concerns we had about being on the water. He was able to put the elements of the programme across in a clear and understandable way, backing up the various concepts by practical demonstrations and bucket loafs of patience. Well what can I say. What a fantastic Helmsman course ! Roy was very knowledgeable about the course and certainly knew his stuff.It was taken at a pace to suit everyone ! there were three on the course. Lunch was provided and breaks given !A well worth course covering canal locks rope work and understanding your boat !Excellent sense of humour which made the course fly.Thank you Roy we will certainly be recommending you to others in the future xMichelle & Al x
