Tynemouth Priory and Castle
One of the beautiful scene in UK. Cold in winter so please bring a coat with you. Dogs will like to run freely in this place. Waves and tides are actively dancing. Restaurants and couples of car parks nearby. Excellent choice for spending a weekend with your friends or family here. Lastly, I love the seat which put there very much, it was well designed and be put at some perfect positions, I will draw something or read few pages on the seat in front of the sea and make friends with the birds.

Tynemouth Priory and Castle
An old priory mostly in its ruins. The site is managed by English Heritage and free for the members while non members will have to pay. Vast area and very good sea view. It has a stunning view of the Tynemouth lighthouse. That which is still in its original position will be the chapel in the priory. The interior of the chapel reminded me of something I saw in St Giles cathedral in Edinburgh.

Family day out to Tynemouth and took the kids to the castle and priory. Very well kept ruins. Able to access most areas and explore. Information signs limited so if you want to know more would be worth buying the guide on entry.

Tynemouth Priory and Castle
Great priory and castle grounds to visit. There is so much to see here; you can easily spend a few hours here. Tynemouth sits on the coast and the views are amazing. The priory was protected by the castle walls, towers and gatehouse. After the monastery was suppressed in the reign of Henry VIII (1509–47), Tynemouth headland became a coastal fortress and remained so until 1956, because of its strategic position at the mouth of the river Tyne.

Tynemouth Priory and Castle
English Heritage property spanning hundreds of years, still being used in the 60s for the army. This is a large property, with the remains of a gatehouse/castle, which you can walk around, there's little rooms, spiral stairs etc. There's the old priory which is really amazing - totally in ruins, with a beautiful tiny Chapel, and then there are the WW1 & WW2 armourments at the edge of the coast. The gravestones, amazing landscape and beach views are stunning, you can see the pier and the Collingwood statue easily from the priory walls. Toilets and shop on site. We parked (motorhome) only about 50 yards from the site, street parking huge bays (£2.20), running alongside the site is a road down to a free carpark, but it's quite a hike back up to the entrance. English Heritage have quite a lot of events advertised for this property during the summer hols. Admission for two grey haired folk was £8.50 each - bargain !!!

Timed our visit to coincide with the knights tournament and so glad we did! The knights certainly went for it and were great entertainment! The priory is located close to the high street which offers plenty of parking and opportunities for refreshments

Tynemouth Priory and Castle
Tynemouth Priory and Castle is a historic site located in Tynemouth, England. It is a combination of a ruined Benedictine priory and a 13th-century castle. The site is perched on a rocky headland overlooking the North Sea, and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The priory was founded in the 7th century, and was one of the most important religious centers in Northumbria. It was destroyed by the Danes in the 9th century, but was rebuilt in the 11th century. The castle was built in the 13th century, and was used to defend the priory and the town of Tynemouth from attack. The site is now owned by English Heritage, and is open to the public. Visitors can explore the ruins of the priory and the castle, and enjoy the stunning views from the headland. There is also a museum on the site, which tells the history of the priory and the castle.Tynemouth Priory and Castle is a fascinating place to visit, with a rich history. The ruins are well-preserved, and the views from the headland are breathtaking. The site is also a popular spot for walkers, cyclists, and birdwatchers.
