Coventry Canal
Pleasant enough to cycle or walk along. Especially if you get out before the dog walkers scatter all the wildlife

Interesting canal going through a mixture of rural and suburban landscapes. Shame about the amount of litter on the canal banks. The Atherstone flight of locks are worth doing.

In general, the canal is pretty boring. Avoid the 'Coventry Arm' as it is a complete waste of several hours cruising.

Once you travel to the end of Coventry canal you will be disappointed. Every other city that has a canal uses it to build revenue but Coventry doesn't seem to want to. I would expect nice pubs and restaurants but there doesn't seem to be anything around. Real shame

I thought this was the best cruising canal I've been on so far.

The canal through Nuneaton and Hartshill is lovely, apart from a short stretch around Vernons Lane where rubbish can often be seen scattered on the offside bank. Points of interest that can be accessed from the canal are the fields out towards Caldecote Hall, the Dumbles (near Vernons Lane), and Red Deeps & Wem Meadows. It's also worth looking out for where the Griff Arm used to run off from just south of Griff Hollows to where Bermuda Lake now stands. Something else to look out for is the old brick kiln at what used to be Judkins Quarry. It's best spotted from the canal in the autumn and winter when the leaves have dropped from the trees, and can be found on the offside just past the first bridge as you head north from Tuttle Hill Bridge.
